Giants win!!!!

Finally pressed in the World Series, the San Francisco Giants finished off a most unexpected and stunning sweep.

Marco Scutaro delivered one more key hit this October, hitting a go-ahead single with two outs in the 10th inning that lifted the Giants over the Detroit Tigers 4-3 in Game 4 on Sunday night.

Nearly eliminated over and over earlier in the playoffs, the Giants sealed their second title in three seasons when Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera looked at strike three right down the middle for the final out.

On a night of biting cold, stiff breezes and some rain, the Giants combined the most important elements of championship baseball — great pitching, timely hitting and sharp defense.

Series MVP Pablo Sandoval and the underdog Giants celebrated in the center of the diamond at Comerica Park after winning six elimination games this postseason.

Watch game 7 of the NLCS with the Giants vs. St. Louis on three big screen TVs (with the sound on) at the SoMa Streat Food Park with 8-10 food trucks plus seating in a heated pavilion. Plus the venue just opened their new beer garden and usually has drink specials like $2 beers.

Meteor showers put on a supernatural show this weekend

 

California skies will be lit up with a meteor shower from the Orionid meteors this weekend. The show began this week and was seen all over the Bay Area. Some residents reported hearing a loud boom while viewing, while others thought the noise was an earthquake. The Orionds will peak across the U.S. as a waxing crescent moon sets before midnight on Saturday, October 20.

Here are some viewing tips:

• Get away from the city lights. 
• Choose an area like the beach away from lights and with a wide open view of the skies. 
• Look to the northwest. Get up high if possible.
•  If you're taking pictures, make sure the exposures can last at least a minute if not longer and aim the camera at a 30-degree angle, rather than straight up, which is the worst thing to do.

Oracle´s catamaran

The towering Oracle catamaran designed to "fly on water" in its defense of the America's Cup drifted out to sea Tuesday after a spectacular flip into San Francisco Bay during a training run.

Onlookers watched in amazement as the $8 million AC72 racing craft dug its bow into the water, heaved and slammed sideways into the bay shortly after 3 p.m. just off the shoreline near the St. Francis Yatch Club.

California Academy of Sciences | Free Day for Richmond Dist. Residents

Each neighborhood, defined by zip codes, will have opportunities to visit the California Academy of Sciences for free over a three-day weekend(Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) in the spring and fall .

So that means as long as you have a driver’s license or other proof of residency you can save yourself $29.95 and visit the museum for free.

Tangled sea lion rescued at Pier 39

Hundreds of tourists cheered at Pier 39 on Tuesday as marine mammal rescuers captured a young pinniped that had a plastic packing band cinched around its neck.

A passer-by spotted the immature male sea lion frolicking near the pier with his pals around 1:30 p.m., rescuers said.

A team of experts from the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito rushed to the area, where they tranquilized the sea lion and herded it into a large animal crate.

America´s Cup

The America’s Cup World Series, (ACWS) which is like a pre-season race for the America’s Cup has its second round the week of October 2-7, 2012 with45-foot catamarans racing both head-to-head (“match racing”) and as a whole fleet (“fleet racing”) in the waters just north of the Marina.

At the free America’s Cup Village on Marina Green, watch daily stage presentations include the America’s Cup Morning Show, a dock-out show (1:00 pm), live commentary during racing and a dock-in show.
